Circuit Clerk Public Records Requests
The MacArthur Justice Clinic at the University of Mississippi School of Law obtained these lists by issuing hundreds of public records requests to circuit clerks seeking the “jail lists” for all 82 Mississippi counties for the criminal terms of court occurring since July 2017. Copies of those lists are available below. The staff and students of the MacArthur Justice Clinic, along with student volunteers at the University of Mississippi School of Law, then spent hundreds of hours manually inputting that information into this database. We believe this to be the first time that the public has had access to any such resource revealing the identity of all persons detained in Mississippi’s county jails.
